Board Bulletin January 2026

Principal’s Report

Enrollment: 2025-2026 Enrollment has increased to 114 total students.

Winter Sports/Activities:

All basketball activities at Our Savior’s have been canceled due to water damage to the gym floor. Prior to Christmas, the sprinkler was set off and caused the floor to have to be removed. They are in the process of installing a new floor. This should be completed by the end of February.

  •  Girls BasketballCurrently 14-6, and they have about 1 month left in the season with 12 games to go. They could possibly get a top 2 seed in their sub-sectional, only behind Pleasant Plains. They finished 3rd in the Nokomis tournament, and 4th at North Mac Christmas tournament. They will celebrate our 3 seniors on February 7th at Calvary Academy.
  •  Boys BasketballCurrently 7-11, but improving after having a significant number of early season injuries. They lost in the consolation championship to New Berlin at the Waverly Tournament over Christmas break. They will now be playing home games at UIS.
  •  Cheerleading11 girls are participating. They participated in the blue/white scrimmage, engaging fans in halftime games as well.
  •  Scholastic BowlThey had their first competition last week, and went 1-1. We have around 10 students participating.
  •  MusicWe have two young ladies, K. Mueller and E. Price, that will be participating in the Illinois Music Education Association all state competition at the end of January. 

 Chapels at Grade Schools: Students will lead chapel at Trinity on March 2nd and Our Savior’s on March 4th. 

Principal Meetings- Participating in the National Lutheran School Accreditation team at Metro-East Lutheran High School in March. This will provide valuable insight into the new process as we enter that phase in about 18 months. Attending the annual Dual Credit Meeting at Lincoln Land Community College in February.

  

Development Director’s Report

Lutheran High Fundraising Calendar for January – April    

  • Auction (April 10, 2026) – Planning meeting at LuHi on January 19th, 5:30pm
  • Texas Roadhouse – “Dine to Donate” 10% – February 1-5 – Post Prom
  • Culver’s Wabash Ave – February 24th – Junior Class
  • Trivia Night – March 14th at VFW – Junior Class Post Prom Activities

Continuing to meet with Generis to discuss the future fundraising efforts at LuHi.

  • Recommends feasibility interviews with our potential top donors to start the silent phase in early February.
  • Currently developing a Case for Support to use for Campaign Materials.
  • Developing a policy for naming opportunities in the new building construction project.

Chairman’s Report

  • IDNR is conducting an inspection of the Washington Property to ensure there are no subsidence issues at the athletic fields prior to Spring sports beginning.
  • Scheduling an appraisal of the Chatham Road property to request reimbursement for the land under the State Grant. The State will reimburse whichever is less, purchase price or appraisal price.

Executive Committee – Did not meet.

Finance Committee

  • Financial reports for end of month December were provided and are available for release to the Association Churches.
  • Housing allowances for called workers were approved for calendar year 2026.
  • Central Illinois District LCMS waived December mortgage payment and provided us a check for $25,000 as a match for funds raised in support of the New Building since 2022.
  • $1.5M State of Illinois Grant Funds. All documents are complete and pending final review/signature.

Education Committee

  • The Committee met on December 16, 2025 and will meet again on January 22nd.
  • The Committee reviewed Mr. Klug’s evaluations of new teachers, how they are doing, what their goals are, and if improvement needs to be made. In most cases, the evaluations were very positive.
  • The Committee reviewed an evaluation form used previously by the Board and faculty to evaluate the principal. Prior to Covid this evaluation was completed every year. This form will be distributed to the Board and faculty in January. A report on the results will be presented to the Board at the February meeting.
  • The Board also discussed the reinstatement of a policy that the Education Committee visits the school and classrooms in February to observe school operations. They are observing school atmosphere, academic motivation, student-teacher interaction, and facilities among other things. The visit is meant to observe the teaching/learning process at LuHi not individuals.
  • The Committee is also reviewing and updating the faculty handbook. This process will happen over a period of time.
